Martian Rocks, 2022

Martian Rocks is a series of hand-painted rocks observed and scanned during a Mars analog space mission. As we move off-planet, we need to consider new approaches to research, avoiding exploitation and extraction while also keeping record of new discoveries. Martian Rocks is painted from red regolith, a material found on Mars, mixed with dehydrated spirulina and saliva to depict the land without depleting necessary supplies needed during a space mission. This series considers new ways of documenting and collecting artifacts from off-world without interfering with an otherworldly environment.
