Insect Chart, 2018

Insect Chart-1 contains hand-drawn dragonflies, damselflies, and a variety of bee species made from 3D-printed plastic. Each sculpture is labeled and archived using traditional entomology practices, containing the species type, location collected, and name of collector. This practice alludes to historic forms of insect collection which used arsenic, a very hazardous material, to preserve insect life forms. By using plastic as an alternative method of preservation, this artwork comments on the controversial practices of preservation as well as the relentless longevity of plastic that pollutes and replaces the natural world.
